Saturday saw round two of the 2012-2013 North East Harrier League held at Shibdon Pond, Blaydon. The under 13 boys stole the show for us, easily winning the team prize with 1st, 2nd and 4th finishers in their race. They were led home by birthday-boy Max Pearson running form the fast pack, who just caught Ben Dykins on the line. Ben was making his debut in Harrier League, and this was an impressive start. The 3rd counter was Charles Downs in 4th place overall, also running his first Harrier league race. Both he and Ben move to the fast pack for the next fixture. Other Tynedale runners on the day were Chris Jackson, Jack Donaldson, Sam Myers, Dominic Peel and Jo Green. It’s great to see so many of the lads turning out to compete.
The under 17 boys’ performance was almost as good, also winning the team prize, and again with a Tynedale runner leading the field home. George Sanderson made the most of starting from the slow pack to win by 7 seconds, with Toby Routledge also having a great run, finishing in 4th place less than a minute behind. Alistair Maxwell-Gray was the third counter in 9th place. Jonathon Currie running from the fast pack, finished in 19th place but 4th from the fast pack runners and one of the quicker times of the day.
The under 15 boys were led home by Fergus Robinson in a typically strong run from the fast pack. Dominic Morley and Jonathon Anderson were the other counters, with Bryn Mordey and Ben Pickett also putting in good efforts.
The senior men saw solid runs from another great turnout of nearly 20 athletes. Phil Thompson was the first Tynedale home finishing in the top 30, which sees him promoted to the medium pack. The other 5 counters for points were Syd Coxon, Paul Hutchinson, Andy Green, Rob Carter and Paul Pickett. They finished as 3rd placed team for the second event running. We have to aim for a 2nd place finish at the next fixture if we are to get promoted back to Division 1!
The women also finished in 3rd place in what is proving to be a competitive division. They were led home by team captain Steph Scott who had a fine run from the slow pack, finishing in 5th place overall. The 2nd counter was Kim Bluck who ran very smoothly from the slow pack and held off Karen Robertson and Kirstie Anderson chasing from the fast pack.
In the under 13 girls Ellen Rickets had a fine run from the slow pack finishing in 5th place. Sophie Speed (slow pack) and Elena Bluck (fast pack) were the other two counters, with Rhianna Nitsch and Phoebe Speed in support. The under 15 girls were one short of a team, but Rhianna Stoves (fast pack) and Amy Ricketts (slow pack) both put in good efforts.
The next fixture is at a new venue for the Harrier League – Bedewell Park in Monkton (Jarrow). Details will be circulated near the time.
