Northumberland have selected a modest team of just over 30 athletes for the English Schools Track and Field Championships at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham on 5th and 6th July. There are four Tynedale Harriers in the team (last year there was only one).
Flying the Northumberland flag are:
Joe Hughes – Junior Boys 300m
Matthew Jackson – Junior Boys 800m
Max Pearson – Junior Boys 1500m
Jonny Currie – Senior Boys 800m
The selections were based on this year’s Northern Counties Championships, held at Clairville Stadium, Middlesbrough on Saturday 15th June. The competition included teams from Cleveland, Cumbria, Durham and Northumberland. Tynedale Harriers were well represented in the Northumberland team and our athletes put in some great performances.
Amy Ricketts finished 3rd in the Junior Girls High Jump with a PB of 1.50. Mia Richardson competed in the Intermediate Girls 300m finishing in 4th place, less than a second off 3rd in a time of 45.20. Catherine Sadler competed in the Intermediate Girls Triple Jump and 300m Hurdles. Catherine took 6th place in the Triple Jump (8.73m) and 4th in the 300m Hurdles (56.2).
Joe Hughes and Andrew Sadler were Tynedale’s only 1st placed athletes. Joe won the Junior Boys 300m in a time of 38.40 and Andrew won the 400m Hurdles in 67.6. Max Pearson finished 3rd in the Junior Boys 1500m with a PB of 4.28.3. Matthew Jackson also took 3rd place in the Junior Boys 800m in a time of 2.13.5. Adam Todhunter had a long wait before his Junior Boys Steeple Chase event. Adam finished in 2nd place (6.14.6). Jonny Currie finished 2nd in the Senior Boys 800m.
Northumberland took 1st place in the Girls, Boys and Overall. A very successful day all round. We wish our athletes all the best for Birmingham!
