Tynedale Harriers County Champions

Northumberland Schools’ County Championships

The sun was out again at the weekend as the best of our county’s young athletes competed for honours at Gateshead International Stadium.

Tynedale Harriers were well represented with no less than twenty athletes competing, with a total of twenty seven performances between them. Ten of our athletes became County Champions (a couple of whom won two events!), four took second place and another five took third place positions.

The meeting started well with Adam Todhunter taking 1st place in the Junior Boys 1500m Steeple Chase in a time of 6.06.57.  Amy Ricketts was 1st in the Junior Girls High Jump clearing 1.46m.  Andrew Sadler was 1st in the Senior Boys 400m hurdles in a time of 68.9.  Ian Shevlin was 1st in the Senior Boys 100m and again in the 200m in times of 11.83 and 23.38 respectively.  Jack Coulmer took 1st in the Junior Boys Triple Jump with a jump of 11.64m.  Jamie Adams was 1st in the Intermediate Boys Triple Jump with a jump of 11.22m.  Joe Hughes took 1st in the Junior Boys 300m in 38.07.  Jonny Currie was 1st in the Senior Boys 800m in a time of 1.59.01 and also took 1st place in the Senior Boys Pole Vault clearing a height of 2.60m.  Mia Richardson was 1st in the Intermediate girls 300m in 44.58.  Max Pearson took 1st place in the Junior Boys 1500m in a time of 4.36.76.

Those athletes who finished in first or second place go on to represent Northumberland at the Intercounty Championships on Saturday 15th June at Claireville Stadium, Middlesbrough. Joining the Tyndale winners will be Catherine Sadler (IG triple jump), Lewis Gate (JB triple jump) and Matthew Jackson (JB 800m) who all finished in second place in their events.  Jack Coulmer will be competing in two events as he also finished in second place in the junior boys’ long jump.

Just missing out on qualifying for the next round in their events were Robbie Hewitt, Shane Colclough, Toby Routledge, Catherine Sadler and Mia Richardson, who all performed strongly and achieved third places.

We wish them all good luck.
