The NECCA Road Relay Championship (the Signals Relays) is currently held at Hetton Lyons Park, Hetton-le-Hole. This is a superb venue for this 2.22 mile relay as the route follows the cycle path round the lake and two laps are required to make up the distance. It is therefore a good event for spectators as well who have an opportunity to watch the regions top runners in action.
Morpeth Harriers 6 man ‘A’ team took top honours this year in a time of 65.32 closely followed by Sunderland ‘A’ in 67.03 and New Marske ‘A’ in 67.36.
Tynedale Hariers Senior Mens team put in a very credible performance on the day, coming 17th overall from 39 Senior mens teams, in a time of 76.48.
Philip Jameson led the team out in 12.27 and handed over to Andy Richardson who had a superb run to clock 11.15 for the 2.22 miles (5.04 pace). This was followed by excelent performances from Chris Baber (12.18), Adam Pratt (12.33), and Peter Hearn (13.28). Phil Thompson completed the six man team in 14.47.
Many thanks to all who took part and in particular Andy Richardson who made sure Tynedale Harriers had a team on the day!
