North Eastern Open Grand Prix Series Meeting 1 23rd April 2013

Wednesday 23rd April was the first NEGP meeting of the season. Tynedale were well represented across the board and most of our athletes came away with seasons and/or personal bests.

Max McLeod was first to compete for Tynedale in the meeting and got us off to a flying start. Max won the U13 Boys 100m with a Personal Best (PB) of 14.4 secs. He also competed in the U13 Shot Put finishing in 2nd place with another PB of 7.42m.

Rosina McLean, having just stepped up to the U15 age group, won the U15 100m in a time of 13.5.

Lia Wilson won the U13 Girls Shot Put with a PB throw of 5.97m which was over a meter further than the 2nd placed athlete.  Lia also ran in the U13 Girls 100m finishing 5th in a PB time of 15.1 secs.

Keely French had a good run in the U13 Girls 1500m finishing  just outside the points in a time of 5:52.3.

Darren Towart has just started competing in athletics and is proving to be an asset to Tynedale Seniors, competing in the V35 age category. Needless to say all Darren’s performances were PB’s! In the 150m he finished second Vet in a time of 19.3 secs. This time sees Darren rank 5th in the UK V35 category 200m rankings. In the V35 300m Darren was 1st in a time of 40.9 secs. He rounded off the night with another win in the V35 Javelin with a throw of 29.55m.

In the U17 Mens 150m Bryn Mordey finished in 5th with a PB of 18.2 secs. In the U17 Mens 300m Bryn was 4th with a PB of 38.4 secs. Constantly improving on his finishing position Bryn was 3rd in the U17 Mens Shot Put with a throw of 7.91m.

In the U13 Girls Long Jump the first three places were closely contested. Tynedale’s Louise Smith was 2nd with a great  jump of 3.64m.

In the Senior Men’s 1500m Adam Pratt recorded a Seasons Best (SB) of 4:16.8.

In the U15 Boy’s 1500m Max Pearson won the race in a Personal Best (PB) of 4:17.4. Max had a great race against friend, and rival, Reece Curtis of New Marske. The win earned him the award of Male Athlete of the Meeting. Like Darren, Max is also topping the UK ratings and is 3rd in the UK U15 Boys 3000m and 1500m rankings.
