Whitley Bay June 17th
It was the sprinters and jumpers who were to the fore for Tynedale Harriers in the final round of the National Young Athletes League Division 2 North East track and field fixtures at Whitley Bay on June 17th.
For the U15 boys there were impressive victories for Joe Hughes in the longer sprints over 200m and 300m. Bryn Mordey and Jack Colmer also scored multiple victories, Bryn in the 100m and long jump and Jack with a hat-trick in the 100m, long jump and high jump. The U15 boys’ team were also convincing winners in the 4 x 100m sprint relay. Over hurdles both Don Bennet and Max Mcleod were victorious in the U13 75m events whilst Eleanor Colmer (U13) and Chloe Simpson (U15) both gained maximum points in their respective long jump competitions.
In the U15 girls’ events Ellie Franks had a victory over 200m whilst team-mate Megan Daniels was busy with a trio of second places in the 200m, shot putt and discus. Chloe Williams was also on form with personal bests in the high jump and shot putt. For the U13s there were second places for Louis Domingue and Max Mcleod in the short sprints and Imogen Bell in the shot putt whilst Alex Cowell impressed in the long and high jumps.
The distance runners made up for a lack of numbers with dominant individual performances. Jonny Currie set a new personal best in the U17 1500m, leading form gun to tape to win by half a lap whilst Max Pearson was equally commanding in the U13 event and Katie Holmes battled for a hard earned 3rd place in the U13 girls 1200m.
An enjoyable day ended with the team in 5th place overall and there will be much to look forward to in the forthcoming club championships.
