Five Tynedale runners were representing Northumberland Schools at the English Schools cross-country championships in Derbyshire on Sunday. An impressive and unprecedented number.
The results and other race information is here.
The format is 8 runners per county giving a field of over 300 in most of the races. There are 6 races over 3 age groups. Juniors (years 8 and 9), intermediates (years 10 and 11) and seniors (years 12 and 13). The course was the heaviest I have ever seen with thick gooey mud throughout and especially on the stiff climb at the start of each lap.
The Tynedale results were
Junior Boys – Max Pearson 80th and Jonny Anderson 167th. Christopher Jackson sadly took ill the night before. He bravely started but was unable to finish.
Intermediate Boys – Fergus Robinson 163rd
Senior Boys – Jonny Currie 169th
