I always feel a real sense of pride when I walk down to the Quayside on Great North Run weekend. The North East is a wonderful place! Yesterday was no exception, hundreds of people gathered for the Junior Great North Run and amongst the hundreds were a good helping of friendly faces from Tynedale Harriers.
It was a dry, warm and sometimes sunny day on Tyneside. Not perfect running conditions but good enough. I was unable to watch the girl’s runs as they took place some three hours before the boys but I learned very quickly, as I wandered down the Quayside, that we had had a successful afternoon. Lots of competitors, lots of money raised for Josie’s Dragon Fly Trust and lots of fun. To top that Hannah Pinkney had a superb run to take 3rd place overall with a time of 15 mins 12 secs. That is an excellent achievement-well done Hannah!
The boys ran much later in the afternoon at 4pm. Having watched the likes of Kiprop, Grice, Boyek, Muir and Weightman race by in the Men’s and Women’s elite 1 mile races it was time for the boys to line up. There are always a good spread of club runners and fun runners just as in the senior race which makes viewing exciting, entertaining and inspiring. From my view point on the Swing Bridge I watched the boys run by, spotting Tynedale shirts as they passed.
We again had some great results. Max Pearson took 1st place in the 13/14 age category, and 4th overall, in a time of 12 mins 58 secs, beating the course record for that age group which he set last year.
Our Tynedale runners were:-
Joe Anderson, Ellie Bluck, Harry Coldwell, Daniel Connolly, Victoria Connolly, Jasmine Couchman, Keely French, Alex Hannant, Jacob Hunter, Imogen Killen, Patrick Lally, Roisin Lally, Dominic Morley, Gabriel Morley, Aidan Pinkney (information from the Great Run website results)
Well done all!
