11th October 2014
Well it’s that time of year again. The excitement has definitely been mounting on social media with athletes young and old looking forward to the winter of mud.
The first Cross Country of the North East Harrier League was held at Cramlington Nature Reserve. It was well organised and amazingly well attended but alas no mud. Spectators were seen casting off their winter jackets and lying around in the sunshine.
Our Junior Athletes ran their hearts out and came up with some great results.
In the U11’s Ava Taperell was the first female finisher. Ava finished in a time of 5:26 just 26 seconds behind the first boy. Archie Marston finished in 18th place, Harry Courtney finished in 71st place, Jemima Stewart was 120th, Sam Bell 131st and Blake English 132nd. For many of the Under 11’s it was their first Cross Country race and they should all be very proud of themselves.
The U13 Boys were next up. Our first finisher was Aidan Pinkney in a time of 14:02 and in 7th place overall, he was followed by Tom Murphy, Joel Driver and Joe Green. The boys took 11th place in the team competition.
In the U13 girls our first finisher was Keeley French in a time of 14:16 and in 5th place overall. Chasing behind Keeley were Bethan Nitsch, Jasmine Couchman, Isobel Maxwell-Gray, Olivia Stewart, Catherine Little and Victoria Marshall. A really strong team performance sees the girls finishing 2nd in the league today.
The U15 Boys was our most successful team of the day. They won the team competition due to performances from Max Pearson who finished first in a time of 11:07 followed by Christopher Jackson, Daniel Emerson, Samborne Bush, Cameron Grey and Christian Chomsey.
The U15 Girls saw our second win of the day. Ellen Ricketts took 1st place overall in her first year in the age group. It was a very determined run from Ellen who lost the lead at one stage but battled back to win by a clear 8 seconds in the end. The team finished 4th with other great runs coming from Ellie Bluck, Alex Lea, Bella Chicken, Anya Herdman, Rhianna Nitsch and Freya Murphy.
A lot of our older Junior runners have stepped up to Seniors this year leaving the U17 Boys struggling for a team. We did have two athletes in the age category, Jaycee Shotton finished 11th overall and Bryn Mordey finished in 24th place. Jaycee was running his first race at that age group and Bryn his first ever Cross Country for the club. Good results from both.
The last Junior race of the day was the U17 Girls. Hannah Pinkney has been on good form this year and continued the good form today to take 2nd place overall in the age category.
Well done to all our Juniors for such a great start to the season.
