The Angus Tait Memorial 19th Hexhamshire Hobble Fell Race
The second event of the 2012/2013 Grand Prix series was held on Sunday 2nd December in bright sunshine around Allendale. Underfoot conditions on the fells were icy following the cold weather over the weekend and care had to be taken to avoid falling, although many runners were sporting cuts and bruises after the race!
The ‘Hobble’ continues to be a popular event, this year attracting around 200 runners, of which Tynedale Harriers had over 30 finishers. Race winner was Andy Blackett (Durham Fell Runners) in 1 Hour 9 minutes 55 seconds with first lady, Jo Zakrzewski of Dumfries Running Club, recording a very credible 1 hour 17 minutes 44 seconds considering the conditions.
The organisers stricktly applied the FRA requirement to carry essential equipment and as a result disqualified several runners after the race who were not carrying bum bag or back pack.
Full Results can be found on the Allen Valley Striders website link and the Grand Prix league table has been updated – congratulations to Dudley Roberts and Steph Scott who lead the tables after two events (+ Marathon) Grand Prix 2013 after Hobble . Looking further ahead, keep Sunday 6th January 2013 free for a superb little trail race around the village of Hart. The ‘Old Monks’ 6 mile trail race was thoroughly enjoyed by a small contingent of Tynedale Harriers this year and has been retained in the Grand Prix again as the January event. The race is a mixture of tarmac, trail and muddy paths but a great way to get racing again after the festive season! website
