The Gibside estate is a fantastic venue for a trail race at this time of year, not only because of the great autumnal colours but because it provides a challenging and varied route amid great scenery.
This has traditionally been the first event of the new Grand Prix competition and normally attracts up to 30 Tynedale Harriers. Not so this year. With only 10 male runners and 5 female runners completing the event it was an opportunity to gain some early points!
Once again, Richard Parker came first for the Club and 4th overall in a time of 36.01. Great runs also by Peter Hearn and Dudley Roberts who came second and third for the club in 38.47 and 40.21 respectively. This was Dudley’s first Gibside and not knowing the course seemed to work to his advantage! There were then Harriers finishing in quick succession with Hugh, Ivan and Peter Murphy finishing in 40.29, 40.38 and 40.46.
For the ladies, Steph Scott was first home for the club in 45.58. Steph was slightly disappointed with her time as she felt below par on the day. Kim Bluck was close behind Steph and finished in 46.08 with Steph Bingham, Jo Murphy and Eileen Armstrong clocking 51.14, 56.38 and 62.55 respectively.
