English Athletics U15/U17 Championships 2014
Bedford International Stadium
30th/31st August 2014
It’s been a long track season for Max Pearson this year but a highly successful one and one way beyond his own expectations.
The final major track race of the season was the 800m in the England Athletics Championships. Weather conditions were not ideal, warm but very breezy in Bedford International Stadium. Max ran strongly in Saturday’s heat to finish fastest qualifier for the final in a time of 2:02. It was set to be an exciting final though as all the qualifying athletes were capable of times between 1:59 and 2:06.
The final was held on Sunday, the weather as the day before but with wind speed notched up a little bit more. Max set off confidently but the pace was slow for the first 400m which, as the commentator said, was setting them up for a sprint finish. He wasn’t wrong. As they hit the top bend the sprinters took off in a battle for the line. Max was out sprinted by Irelands Aaron MGlynn and City of York’s Alex Botterill to take the Bronze medal in a time of 2:04.0.
It was a great finish to a great season for Max and his coach Peter Venus. Gold in the 1500m at English Schools, Gold in the 3K at Northerns and Bronze in the 800m at England Atheltics Championships.
