A bright if breezy day welcomed runners to Temple Park in South Shields for these two cup events on Saturday. The course was surprisingly dry and firm given all the recent rain and in sections that were sheltered from the wind it was quite warm. Exposed on the main field the wind was a challenge, both for the runners and especially for the tent erecting team.
Max Pearson followed up his win in the Junior Great north run with a victory in the under 13 boys race. Jack Donaldson and Fabian Byron were the tow other Tynedale runners in this event in 23rd and 24th positions, giving the boys 5th place overall. In the under 15s race Fergus Robinson looked very comfortable at the finish in 4th place, with Callum Outerside in 8th and Dominic Morley in 13th, enough for 2nd team overall. George Sanderson and Toby Routledge were the only Tynedale runners in the under 17s race, with George finishing in 8th place and Toby in 15th. there were five Tynedale men in the senior race, with a close finish with between Adam Pratt and Chris Baber in 50th and 51st positions, Adam coming in ahead of Chris by 1 second.
In the women’s races, there was only one Tynedale runner in the under 13 girls, but Ellen Ricketts had a good run finishing in 14th place. Again Rhianna Stoves was the only Tynedale representative in the under 15 girls. Rhianna looked very strong coming into the finish in 9th place. Fran Little starred for the women in the senior race, finishing in an impressive 7th place overall and 4th vet.
There was a mixed under 11 race as well. Gabriel Morley was 3rd under 11 boy (5th overall), Catherine Little was 12th girl with Royston Lally not far behind.
The first all important Harrier League fixture is at Cramlington on Saturday October 27th. Let’s see a good turnout from Tynedale in all categories and make it a strong start to the season.
