The final event of the 2012 Grand Prix competition took place on Sunday 22nd July with a total of 23 club members taking part. Weather conditions were generally good although a steady headwind made what is a challenging course slightly more difficult!
Despite the weather, Peter Hearn had an excellent run clocking 1 hour 28 minutes 20 seconds coming first for the Club and 28th position overall. Peter was closely followed by Ivan Newton who improved on his time from last year to record 1 hour 31 minutes 51 seconds. Ivan is the only Tynedale Harrier to complete all 9 events plus a Marathon since last October when the competition kicked off. Ivan has earned 117 points and 3rd place in the men’s competition behind Phil Vincent (119 points) and Richard Parker with maximum 125 points.
Steph Scott was the first Tynedale lady to finish on Sunday and gain maximum 25 points. Unfortunately, Steph had not managed to complete 5 events and stay in contention despite leading the table for a short time last year. Steph was followed home by Charley Pinkey in 1 hour 52 minutes and Susan Black in 2 hours 8 minutes both gaining valuble points and moving up the table. The top of the table is however unchanged as none of the top 3 ladies were running. The final position is therefore Joanne Lee 125 points, Beth Gregory Smith 119 points and Rachel Chinnery 117 points.
The competition this year had nine nominated events plus ‘any marathon’. A total of 20 Club members completed 26 marathons since last October which is an outstanding achievement for the Club!
