This year’s annual Club relay was held on the Cleveland Way starting from Helmsley in the North Yorkshire Moors to Scarborough on the North Sea coast. With a total of 97 miles to cover in just one day, an early start was essential! As such, the ‘advance party’ camped overnight and were literally ‘up and running’ before 4am on Saturday morning.
The weather could not have been better for the event with clear skies in the early morning and a bright moon providing some light for the first two stages to Osmotherley. After sunrise at around 06:20am the day was sunny and pleasently warm for both runners and supporters throughout the day and into the early evening.
The 97 miles had been divided into 14 sections ranging from some challenging 10 mile+ routes which required navigation (in the dark) to the 3.3 mile ‘family leg’ along the coastal path from Staithes to Runswick Bay. With about 25 runners (including family members) involved during the day the event was an outstanding success and great fun for all involved.
Congratulations to Paul and Ross for organising another fantastic day and to all those who supported and brought along family members to run and support.
